Sharing 3D models between different software can be hard. SolidWorks is great for making parts. But other tools are better for animation or games. The SimLab FBX Exporter helps you move your files easily.
I am writing this guide assuming you are using SolidWorks 2023 on a Windows 11 PC. This is one of the most common setups today.
Here is how to download, install, and use this helpful tool. 🛠️ Step 1: Download the Plugin First, you need to get the installer file.
Open your web browser. Go to the official SimLab Soft website. Look for the Plugins section in the main menu. Click on SolidWorks. Then select FBX Exporter. Click the Download button. Save the .exe setup file to your computer. ⚙️ Step 2: Install the Extension
Make sure SolidWorks is completely closed before you start this step. Double-click the downloaded .exe file. A window will pop up asking for permission. Click Yes.
Follow the prompts on the screen. Click Next on the welcome page. Read and accept the license agreement. Click Install and wait for the bar to fill up. Click Finish to close the setup wizard. 🚀 Step 3: Turn on the Plugin in SolidWorks Now, you need to tell SolidWorks to use the new tool. Open SolidWorks.
Look at the very top menu. Click on Tools, then click Add-Ins. Scroll down the list until you see SimLab FBX Exporter. Check the box on the Left to turn it on right now.
Check the box on the Right (Start Up) if you want it to load every time you open SolidWorks.
Click OK. A new SimLab menu tab will appear at the top of your screen. 📤 Step 4: Export Your First FBX File Your tool is ready to use! Let us export a 3D model. Open the SolidWorks part or assembly you want to share. Click on the new SimLab tab in the top menu. Click the Export button.
