Fix: Toshiba Places Icon Utility Missing or Not Working If you own a Toshiba laptop, you might notice the Toshiba Places Icon Utility has disappeared from your taskbar or stopped responding. This utility connects users directly to Toshiba’s digital marketplace and cloud services. When it fails, it is usually due to software conflicts, accidental uninstallation, or outdated system files. Here is how to get the utility back and working properly. Check the System Tray and Taskbar Settings Sometimes the utility is running but hidden from view.

Click the arrow icon in the bottom right corner of your taskbar to expand the system tray.

Look for the Toshiba Places icon (typically a colorful, stylized square logo).

If found, drag it back down onto the main taskbar for easy access.

Open your Windows Settings, go to Personalization, click Taskbar, and ensure the utility is toggled to “On” under system tray icons. Enable the Utility in Task Manager Startup

If the application does not launch when you turn on your computer, its startup permission may be disabled. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager. Click on the Startup tab (or Startup Apps in Windows 11). Scroll down to find Toshiba Places Icon Utility.

Check the status column; if it says “Disabled,” right-click it and select Enable. Restart your computer. Reinstall via Toshiba Service Station

If the files are corrupted or completely missing, you can reinstall the utility using built-in factory tools. Press the Windows Key and type Toshiba Service Station. Open the application and click Check for Updates.

Look for the Toshiba Places Icon Utility or Toshiba Places in the list of available downloads. Click install and follow the on-screen prompts. Manually Download the Driver

If the Service Station does not show the utility, you can grab a fresh installer directly from the source. Go to the official Toshiba/Dynabook support website.

Enter your laptop’s exact model number or serial number (found on the sticker at the bottom of the device). Navigate to the Drivers & Downloads section.

Filter by your operating system, locate the Toshiba Places Icon Utility, download it, and run the setup wizard. Run a System File Scan

Corrupted Windows system files can prevent manufacturer utilities from launching correctly.

Press the Windows Key, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator. Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.

Wait for the scan to finish and automatically repair broken files. Restart your laptop to see if the icon returns. To help me tailor the next step, please share:
